How to develop social, civic and cultural competencies?
Cultural knowledge presupposes an awareness of local, national and European cultural heritage and its place in the world. It covers a basic knowledge of major cultural works, including those of contemporary popular culture. It is essential to grasp the cultural and linguistic diversity in Europe and other parts of the world, the need to preserve it, and the importance of aesthetic factors in daily life. The skills required also include integrating one’s expressive and creative views with the views of others, and recognizing and taking advantage of social and economic opportunities in the context of cultural activities. Cultural expression plays a key role in the development of creative skills, which can be applied in various professional fields. Understanding one’s own culture and cultural identity are critical to developing an open attitude toward and respect for diversity of expression. A positive attitude is also related to creativity and willingness to cultivate one’s aesthetic sensibility through artistic self-expression and participation in cultural life.
DEAMS offers students the opportunity to participate in the “X-Culture” project, which consists of the development of a business plan made with students from different countries, aimed at enhancing technical skills in a context where working in teams also means knowing how to manage cultural and linguistic differences, and enhancing one’s leadership skills in a global context of diversity. DEAMS has long adhered to the X – Culture project achieving excellent results and managing to stand out in a context where there are more than 5,000 students from 132 universities in 65 countries around the world.
